HARRISBURG (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - The Pittsburgh/Philadelphia rivalry goes back years and at times can be quite bitter, but the Pirate Parrot and Phillie Phanatic are doing their part to remind us we are all neighbors!

The Pirates and Phillies mascots released a video Tuesday promoting “1-4-3 Day”, a day for encouraging acts of kindness this Thursday across Pennsylvania.

The day is inspired by Latrobe’s own Fred Rogers. His favorite number was 143 and said it represented “I love you”.

The resolution was signed by Governor Tom Wolf.

“I commend the Pirate Parrot and Phillie Phanatic for taking the time to help others, which as they show can be simple as holding the door or sharing a cup of coffee with someone,” said Wolf. “I encourage all Pennsylvanians to embody the kindhearted spirit of Fred Rogers on Thursday. A little kindness goes a long way.”
