Pittsburgh Pirates Broadcaster John Wehner joined the Cook and Joe Show on Friday and they were discussing tonight’s starter Chris Archer and how he has struggled since the trade that brought him here at the deadline. Some national writers have suggested that this was the worst deal of the deadline. So the guys asked John if he had the chance to do it all over again…Would he still make that deal?

“I still think he is an elite pitcher,” Wehner said. “I still think moving forward the strength of this team is going to be the starting rotation and he is definitely going to be a part of it.”

Wehner admits that we might not know for years how this trade will turn out because of what Tyler Glasnow and Austin Meadows might do in their careers but he still thinks Archer to the Pirates was worth the risk.

“I think for this team to compete and to get into the post season they have to have solid starting pitching and I think he is going to be a part of that.”
