PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – With centerfielder Starling Marte out of the starting lineup for the second night in a row after leaving Tuesday’s game with a strained right oblique, the Pirates confirmed that they will be making a highly anticipated roster move on Friday. First reported by Rob Biertempfel of the Athletic, the club is expected to send Marte on the 10 day disabled list and then call up their second ranked prospect, Austin Meadows to fill his spot.

MLB Pipeline has Meadows ranked as the No. 42 prospect in all of major league baseball and was assumed by many to have made his big league debut last season. However, early season issues with his hamstring prevented Meadows from getting the call up to the majors.

Meadows was selected with the ninth overall pick in the first round of the 2013 amateur draft out of Grayson High school in Grayson, Georgia. Standing at 6’3 and weighing in at 210 pounds scouts have given the 23 year-old centerfielder great reviews at the plate, on the bases and in the field. Meadows both bats and throws left handed and is hitting .294 with a homerun and 15 runs batted in this season at AAA Indianapolis.
