The team will head to community events around the area leading up to Piratesfest

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - The Pirates CARE-a-van is hitting the road once again as the club gets ready for Piratefest 2020.

The annual trip to community events takes place from January 22 through January 24.

The caravan will stop at public and private community events over those three days.

Here is a complete list of stops and players/coaches/announcers scheduled to appear.

Wednesday, January 22, 2020

 

• Group 1: Blake Cederlind, Guillermo Heredia and Bryan Reynolds will be joined by coaches Glenn Sherlock and Don Kelly.

 Altoona, Pa-- Noon to 2 p.m.

 Dick’s Sporting Goods— The group will assist with a Project Bundle-Up winter clothing event, in partnership with the Salvation Army. (149 Falon Lane Altoona, PA 16602)

Indiana, Pa-- 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

 3 p.m. – 5 p.m.: YMCA of Indiana County—Pirates players and coaches will make a visit to the YMCA of Indiana County to present a $20,500 check, alongside partner PNC, as part of the 2019 Fields for Kids matching grant program. The grant will upgrade three fields for the more than 1,750 boys and girls served by the YMCA. In addition, Pirates celebrities will join youth in a game of whiffle ball, serve snacks and more.  6 p.m. – 8 p.m.: Indiana University of Pennsylvania—Join the Pirates CARE-a-van andteam radio partner Renda Broadcasting for a public event as players will visit IUP for a night that includes games, autographs and more, including contributions from Pirates Charities benefiting the Teddy Bear Fund Drive. The event will take place at the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex. (711 Pratt Drive Indiana, PA 15705)

 

• Group 2: Nick Burdi, Will Craig and Geoff Hartlieb will be joined by coaches Joey Cora and Mike Rabelo.

 Meadville, Pa-- 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

 Meadville Area Middle School— Pirates players and coaches, in partnership with Forever Broadcasting, will host an assembly to present the Long Live Their Legacy curriculum, a Pirates initiative promoting the history of the Negro Leagues and its many stars. Each student will also receive their own copy of “We Are the Ship: The Story of Negro League Baseball” by Kadir Nelson. (974 North St, Meadville, PA 16335)

Erie, Pa-- 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

 3 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.: Barber National Institute— Players and coaches will participate in a special Q&A session, hosted by Pirates in-game host Joe Klimchak. Following the Q&A, players, coaches, mascots, and members of the Bucco Brigade will play carnival games in the gym with the adults and school children served at the Barber Institute.  5 p.m. - 6 p.m.: Tom Ridge Environmental Center— Join the Pirates CARE-a-van for a special Millcreek Township recycling appreciation event this evening. The event is free and open to the public and will include educational resources from local environmental nonprofits, a compost bin raffle, and an opportunity to receive a green giveaway item as a thank you from the township. • Group 3: Josh Bell, Sam Howard and Clay Holmes will be joined by coaches Tarrik Brock and Justin Meccage.

 Monongahela, Pa-- 11 a.m. to Noon

Ringgold High School-- Pirates players and coaches will participate in a meet-and-greet with Ringgold High School baseball and softball teams in the school gymnasium. After the meet and greet and Q&A session, the teams will participate in skill stations led by the Pirates team, giving the Care-a-van group the chance to offer feedback and tips to the high school athletes. Greensburg, Pa-- 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

 Clelian Heights-- In partnership with volunteers from LJ Aviation, the Pirates will host a Fantasy Camp for 40 students from Clelian Heights. Participants will rotate between stations staffed by volunteers alongside Pirates players and coaches, and LJ Aviation employees will serve as buddies for the student participants. Johnstown, Pa-- 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

 Oakland Volunteer Fire Company—Join Pirates players and coaches as they visit with the Oakland Fire Company volunteer firefighters and their families. The event is free and open to the public and will include autograph and photo opportunities. (1741 Bedford St., Johnstown, PA 15902)

 

• Group 4: Ke’Bryan Hayes, Cody Ponce and Yacksel Rios will be joined by manager Derek Shelton and coach Oscar Marin

 Morgantown, WV-- 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Cheat Lake Elementary School—Today, Pirates players and coaches will visit with elementary school students and lead them through fun and simple baseball instruction and activity using USA Baseball’s specialized Fun at Bat equipment. (154 Crosby Rd, Morgantown, WV 26508)

 Clarksburg, WV-- 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Harrison County Recreation Complex—Pirates players and coaches will visit with youth players and participate in a baseball skills clinic for players ages eight to 12, in partnership with the Harrison County PONY League. In addition, Pirates Charities will present a $37,500 check as part of the Fields for Kids matching grant program to assist with the installation of field turf, bases, netting and more at the group’s new indoor facility at the complex.  Pittsburgh-- 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Allegheny Sports Complex at Cool Springs-- Join the Pirates CARE-a-van as the group of players and coaches, in partnership with Highmark, visit with youth players and take part in a special Q&A led by Pirates announcer, Joe Block.  DuBois VA Outpatient Clinic—Pirates players and coaches will visit with patients and participate in whole health activities including yoga, meditation and more. (5690 Shaffer Road DuBois, PA 15801)

 Pittsburgh-- 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

 Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire Station 17—Join the Pirates CARE-a-van as players and coaches attend this event that is free and open to the public. The event will include a demonstration with Station 17 Public Safety, kids’ activities, dinner with community members as well as an opportunity for autographs and photos. Brighton Township Fire Hall—Pirates players and coaches will stop to deliver lunch and thank local first responders for their dedication. (84 Grange Rd, Beaver, PA 15009)

 Pittsburgh-- 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

 Peterson Event Center—Tonight, join the Pirates CARE-a-van as players and coaches will be joined by local Pirates RBI teams to cheer on the University of Pittsburgh Women’s Basketball Team.  McDonald, Pa-- 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.

 McDonald Volunteer Fire Department-- Pirates players and coaches will stop to deliver donuts and coffee to volunteers and staff of the McDonald VFD to show appreciation for their service to the community. (150 N. McDonald St., McDonald, PA 15057)

Weirton, WV-- 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.

 Weirton Elementary School-- In partnership with coaches from Weirton Baseball, the Pirates will offer baseball skills clinics to students at Weirton Elementary School. Students in grades one through four will rotate through stations run by Pirates players and coaches, Weirton Baseball coaches and Bucco Brigade and participate in a Q&A session.  Wheeling, WV-- 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

 YMCA of Wheeling (55 Lounez Ave., Wheeling, WV 26003)

 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.: In partnership with volunteers from Bordas & Bordas, the Pirates will host a Miracle League Fantasy Camp for 40 athletes from the

Miracle League of the Ohio Valley. Participants will rotate between stations staffed by volunteers alongside Pirates players and coaches, and Bordas & Bordas employees will serve as buddies for the Miracle League athletes.

 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.: In partnership with volunteers from the Wheeling Police

Department, the Pirates will host a Baseball Skills Clinic for 40 athletes from the Laughlin Memorial Chapel after school program. Participants will rotate between stations staffed by volunteers alongside Pirates players and coaches and Wheeling Police Officers.

 Pittsburgh—6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

PNC Park Clubhouse Store: Teacher Appreciation Shopping Event-- The Pirates are partnering with Fanatics to offer a 20% discount at the Pirates Clubhouse Store for teachers in our area, with a special invitation extended to teachers affiliated with the Education Partnership. All area teachers are invited to stop in to enjoy the discounted merchandise, refreshments and the opportunity to meet and shop with Pirates players and coaches. (115 Federal Street)

 Youngstown, OH—11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

 Davis Family YMCA— Today, Pirates players and coaches will visit with elementary school students and lead them through fun and simple baseball instruction and activity using USA Baseball’s specialized Fun at Bat equipment. In addition, the Care-a-van group will visit with the Silver Sneakers, fitness classes for older adults. (45 McClurg Rd, Youngstown, OH 44512)

 Columbiana, OH—2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 Columbiana Middle School Gymnasium-- Pirates players and coaches will visit with Columbiana High School baseball and softball teams and take part in an afternoon Q&A event with players and coaches. (720 Columbiana-Waterford Rd, Columbiana, OH 44408)

 New Castle, Pa-- 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

 The Rack—Join the Pirates and the New Castle Area School District for an elementary school baseball and softball coaching clinic. Pirates players and coaches will be joined by area coaches and New Castle High School baseball and softball players as they lead various baseball stations around the facility. Friday, January 24, 2020

All groups will be throughout the Pittsburgh area today in advance of tonight’s Season Ticket Holders Night at PiratesFest, presented by Chick-fil-A Pittsburgh, at PNC Park.

• Group 1: Blake Cederlind, Guillermo Heredia and Bryan Reynolds will be joined by coaches Glenn Sherlock and Don Kelly.

 10:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.: Pittsburgh Food Distribution Event—Today, the Pirates CARE-a-van will gather 2,000 stuffed backpacks at the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank (1 North Linden Street Duquesne, PA 15110) and deliver to the Neighborhood Resilience Project (2038 Bedford Avenue Pittsburgh, PA 15219) in partnership with the LaRoche College baseball team.

1:30 p.m. – 3 p.m.: Point Park University-- This afternoon, Pirates players and coaches will be at Point Park University for an event that will include lunch and the distribution of Chick-fil-A sandwiches to students and a Q&A session in the university’s Lawrence Hall. 10:30 a.m. – 11 a.m.: Training Wheels Childcare Center— Pirates players and coaches will visit with students for a special reading of “Pete the Cat: Play Ball” to the school’s Preschool and Pre-K classes.  11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.: Duquesne University Student Union—Join Pirates players and coaches at the Spring Involvement Expo on Duquesne University’s campus. Pirates CARE-a-van participants will be on-hand to meet with students, sign autographs, and take photos. 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.: Allegheny Traditional Academy-- Pirates players and coaches will visit with students for a special reading of “Pete the Cat: Play Ball” to two different classrooms in the school.
