Pirates Defeat Brewers 12-2, Even Series

Pirates close out this 3-game series against Milwaukee Sunday afternoon at 1:35 at PNC Park

July 06, 2019 - 11:19 pm

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - After a 2 hour and 30 minute rain delay to start the game Saturday afternoon, the Pittsburgh Pirates and Milwaukee Brewers didn't waste any time in putting runs up on the scoreboard.

Mike Moustakas gave the Brewers an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, but the Pirates responded quickly with four runs of their own in the bottom of the inning, including a 2-run single from Kevin Newman.

Newman added a solo home run in the bottom of the 4th inning.  The Pirates put the game away in the final few innings as Starling Marte brought home two on a Triple in the 6th and an RBI Single in the 8th.  Also, in the 8th, Colin Moran brought home two on an RBI Single and Melky Cabrera belted a two run home run to right field to finish off the scoring for Pittsburgh as the Pirates evened up the series with a 12-2 victory over Milwaukee Saturday night at PNC Park.

"I mean the offense is feeling good, going out there and hitting it well right now," said Newman. "It's a blast, showing up to the field everyday we're all having a great time going out there, battling, making big contact, just trying to put runs up for the team and it's going well for us right now."

Dario Agrazal made his third career start for the Pirates Saturday night and pitched 6 innings while striking out one, walked two and gave up five hits and two runs on solo home runs by Yasmani Grandal and Mike Moustakas.

"I believe what is giving me so much success is just my plan of maintaining focus, going up there prepared and trusting in my plan," said Agrazal thru translator Mike Gonzalez. "Recognizing that this is just another game and so far it's working out for me."

INJURY UPDATE

Pirates Outfielder Corey Dickerson was removed from the game Saturday night in the Top of the 7th with what was described as right groin discomfort.  And after the game he seemed to believe that it was just as a precaution and will see how he is feeling tomorrow.

"Just started jogging in, felt someting weird in my groin area and didn't really push it," said Dickerson. "Just felt something weird and as I caught the ball I tried to reactivate it and I could feel something was still there, there's no reason to really push it so I just went ahead and called them out."

The Pirates wrap up this series against the Brewers and homestand Sunday afternoon at 1:35 pm when they send Joe Musgrove (6-7, 4.13 ERA) to the mound against Chase Anderson (4-2, 4.31 ERA) and the Milwaukee Brewers before heading into the All Star Break from July 8-11, 2019.
