April 23, 2019 - 5:17 pm

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - Following back to back losses the Pittsburgh will look to get back on the right track tonight at 7:05 p.m. against Arizona in the second game of a four game series. Despite taking a 4-1 lead into the seventh inning on Monday night, the Pirates (12-8) fell by a final of 12-4 to the Diamondbacks (12-11) after allowing 11 unanswered runs in the final three innings of play.

In addition to the loss, the Bucs also had a scary moment when rookie relief pitcher Nick Burdi left the game in the top of the eighth inning with an arm injury. Burdi was placed on the 10-day IL earlier today with a right bicep/elbow strain earlier today. Early reports are saying that his injury will not require surgery.

On the mound tonight for the Pirates will be right hander, Trevor Williams. In his four starts this season, Williams has been solid going 1-0 with a 2.59 earned run average. Last time out, Williams was dealt a no decision after allowing two earned runs on six hits, a walk and five strikeouts through six innings of work in the Pirates 3-2 win over Detroit on April 17.

Opposing Williams will be the young righty, Luke Weaver. In four starts this season Weaver has a 3.92 ERA and a record of 1-1. Weaver was sharp in his last outing, delivering five shutout innings, allowing just four hits and a walk while striking out nine, earning the win over Atlanta on April 18. Weaver has faced the Pirates seven times in his major league career, which includes four starts. Overall he has one win, one loss and an ERA of 4.18.

Following their game tonight, the Pirates will take on the Dbacks twice more before packing up and heading west to begin a three game series against the National League West leading Los Angeles Dodgers. After that, the Bucs will make a trip down south to face the Texas Rangers twice before heading back to the north shore to play the Oakland Athletics in a three game set next weekend.
