Red Hot Bucs Go for Another Sweep

Pirates look to win sixth straight this afternoon against San Francisco.

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Winners of their last five, the Pirates will look to complete their third sweep of the season this afternoon at home against San Francisco. In a game that was shortened to only five innings due to rain, the Pirates (12-6) were able to edge out the Giants (8-14) by a final of 3-1 thanks to a two run homerun by rookie short stop Cole Tucker, that took place in the bottom of the fifth inning just before play was stopped.

On the mound this afternoon for the Buccos will be veteran right hander, Chris Archer. Archer has made three starts this season, where he as a record of 1-0 with a 2.00 ERA, which is currently fourth best in the National League. In his last start, Archer was dealt a no decision after going seven innings, allowing just one run on four hits and two walks, while striking out nine. Archer has faced the Giants twice in his big league career, where he has a record of 0-2 with a career ERA of 4.85.

Opposing Archer will be young right hander, Dereck Rodriguez. Rodriguez has made four starts this season for San Francisco where he has a record of 2-2 with an ERA of 4.85. In his last start, Rodriguez earned his second win of the season after allowing just one run on five hits in five innings of work in the Giants win over the Washington Nationals on April 16. Rodriguez has faced the Pirates just once in his young MLB career, where he delivered one of the best outings, going 7.0 innings and allowing just one run on two hits while striking out four.

Following the end of their three game set against the Giants this afternoon, the Pirates will remain home to begin a four game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, which will take place from Monday to Thursday this week. After that, the Bucs will pack up and head west for a three game series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
