Bucs look to turn things around today against Dbacks

June 23, 2018 - 3:05 pm

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Coming off of back to back losses the Pirates will look to get back in the win column tonight as they once again take on Arizona at 4:05 pm in the third game of a four game set. The Pirates (36-39) fell 2-1 on Friday night to the Diamondbacks (42-33) in a game that went 13 innings. The loss dropped the Bucs record to 1-4 this season when matched up against the snakes.

On the mound today for the Pirates will be right hander, Joe Musgrove. In his five starts this season Musgrove has two wins, two losses and an earned run average of 3.68. Musgrove perhaps had his worst performance of the season in his last time out allowing six earned runs on eight hits on only 4.1 innings of work as he was dealt the loss in the Pirates 8-6 defeat to the Cincinnati Reds on June 17. In his two career outings against the Diamondbacks, one as a starter and one as a reliever, Musgrove has allowed two earned runs in 7.1 innings pitched.

Opposing Musgrove will be veteran righty, Zack Greinke. In 15 starts this season, Greinke has a 6-5 record and an ERA of 3.90. In his last time out, Greinke earned his sixth win of the season after going 6.1 innings and allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out five in Arizona’s 7-4 win over the Los Angeles Angels on June 18. In his 12 career starts against the Pirates, Greinke has gone 7-4 with a 4.91 ERA.

Following their game on Saturday, the Bucs will wrap up their nine game homestand on Sunday as the play the Diamondbacks once again. Next up will then be a trip to the big apple where they will take on the New York Mets at City field for three games before heading out west to play the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers three games each.
