Pirates Return Home At 14-14 After 2-3 Road Trip

May 03, 2019 - 4:37 pm

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - The Pittsburgh Pirates left PNC Park early last week after that homestand on a 5-game losing streak that grew to an 8-game losing streak after getting swept in a 3-game series to the Dodgers in Los Angeles.  The Pirates righted the ship against the Texas Rangers with a mini 2-game sweep in Arlington this week and return to PNC Park to start this homestand against the Oakland Athletics and Texas Rangers at 14-14.

PIRATES INTERLEAGUE SUCCESS

The Pirates have had early success in interleague play to start this season and are on a 7-game winning streak dating back to last season.  That streak is one game shy of the club record of 8 games done twice in 2013 and 2018.

"We've been really good the past couple years, but I think if you track it all the way back it's been going on for awhile," said Pirates Manager Clint Hurdle.  "Any time I'm asked, the players deserve the credit because they are playing the game, our advanced stats do a fantastic job so I think when we're posting up in front of these people we don't feel like we don't know them."

WHAT A START TO A CAREER

Pirates Outfielder Bryan Reynolds has looked like he has belonged in the major leagues since he got the call up from day one and he is starting to come through with big hits and big moments to help spark this Pirates offense. Reynolds has gotten a hit in his first 9 games in the major leagues, including his first home run Tuesday night in Texas in extra innings.  He talks about he has fit in really well with this team from Day 1 and he feels comfortable in this clubhouse.

"All my teammates are great guys and they really make you feel comfortable so that part of its good," said Pirates OF Bryan Reynolds. "(I) Just try to be myself out there and that kind of helps me relax a little bit."
