Pirates Open 3-Game Series Against Atlanta At PNC Park

The Pirates enter the series at 28-30 and 5 games back of 1st in NL Central

June 04, 2019 - 5:09 pm

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - Steven Brault will take the mound Tuesday night at PNC Park as the Pittsburgh Pirates open up a 3-game series against the Atlanta Braves.  The Pirates are 28-30 and 5 games back in the NL Central at the beginning of play on Tuesday.

BELL GETS A DAY DOWN

Josh Bell will not be in the starting lineup for the 1st time during the 2019 season, but will be available off the bench to pinch hit when needed.

"I mean, I guess I haven't really let that sink it (coming out of the lineup), just kind of get into the feel now, haven't not started a game this year so it's going to be a little different," said Bell. "It was a long stretch there, we're still in that 40 game stretch in 43 days, so get a little bit of a breather and hopefully come back stronger."

LINEUP WITH NO BELL

With Josh Bell getting the day off, Clint Hurdle was asked about how that effects the way he puts together the lineup.

"We took him (Bell) out and mapped around it," said Pirates Manager Clint Hurdle. "Slid Cabrera up one spot, slid Diaz up probably one spot where he'd be and put Osuna behind him."

EARLY SUCCESS FOR BRYAN REYNOLDS

Pirates Outfielder Bryan Reynolds has taken advantage of this chance he is getting due to injuries and he is making quite the impression on the coaching staff and management, especially with what he is able to do at the plate. Reynolds is batting .350 with 10 doubles, a triple, 5 home runs and 17 RBI in 38 games.

"If you watch him hit, I think he's that guy that you watch hit that he just foul's things away. He got beat with a couple balls off the end of the bat his first two at-bats the other day and he made an adjustment," said Hurdle. "He's done it in different games, he's hit soft early in counts. He's gotten his 3-0 swing off as good as a 10-year veteran, which is very impressive. A couple times we've given him 3-0 green lights and he's launched some balls. And its with no fanfare... it's just a guy that shows up and pays attention, for me he prepares well and he learns as he goes along."

37th Pick: Sammy Siani (OF, Penn Charter Charter HS (PA))

95th Pick: Matt Frazier (OF, University of Arizona)

"No, I have not (talked to Prester yet), need to give all the kids a little time to breathe," said Hurdle. "Caught up with all the drafts last night, pulled all the bios today, watched the video because you never know until we draft who we get and as everyone organization will tell you we really like our first 4 guys and there's a lot to like about our first 4 guys. Quinn (Priester), I mean talk about athletic and an edge and a Quarterback and a receiver and a football state championship and then when he gets on the mound it's live, it sinks, that's going to be exciting."
