Pirates Open Up 3-Game Series Against Braves Monday Night

Pirates Look To Continue Their Push Toward A Playoff Spot

(PITTSBURGH - 93.7 The Fan) - The Pirates are right there in the NL Wild Card race and over the next few weeks they are playing teams all battling for the two NL Wild Card spots with them.  The Pirates open up a 3-game series against the Atlanta Braves Monday Night at PNC Park before they hit the road to face the Brewers, Cardinals and Braves.  The next two weeks will go a long way in determining whether or not the Pirates are legitimately in the race for the postseason.

TAKING A LOOK AT THE STANDINGS

In the NL Central, the Cubs after splitting a 4-game series with the Pirates still hold a 3.5 game lead in the division.  The Brewers are 3.5 GB in 2nd place, Cardinals are 4 GB in 3rd place and the Pirates are 9 GB in 4th place.

The NL Wild Card race is going to be the one to watch over the last 6 weeks of the regular season.  Colarado, Philadelphia and Milwaukee are all tied for the top two Wild Card spots with the Cardinals a half game back, Dodgers are 1.5 GB and the Pirates are 5.5 GB.

10:10 pm - Cardinals at Dodgers (Gomber vs Wood)

Tonight (7:05 pm): Chris Archer (PIT: 4-5, 4:49 ERA) vs Bryse Wilson (ATL: MLB Debut)

Tuesday (7:05 pm): Ivan Nova (PIT: 7-7, 4.26 ERA) vs Kevin Gausman (ATL: 7-9, 4.22 ERA)

Wednesday (7:05 pm): Trevor Williams (PIT: 10-9, 3.53 ERA) vs Julio Teheran (ATL: 8-7, 4.24 ERA)

FRAZIER IS ON FIRE

Adam Frazier gets the start in CF tonight for Starling Marte who is out of the lineup tonight after a couple baserunning blunders in Sunday afternoon's game.  Frazier hit his 2nd career Walk-Off HR Sunday afternoon and is hitting .385 (15 for 39) in 13 games during the month of August.  And since being recalled from Indianapolis on July 25, Frazier is batting .382 (21 for 55) with 8 doubles, 2 HR's and 9 RBI.

HERE'S NEWMAN!

Kevin Newman will get his 1st career start in the Major's tonight at 2B as Josh Harrison get's the night off.  Newman has been used as a defensive replacement and pinch-runner since being recalled last week.

WELCOME BACK BRAULT

Pirates LHP Steven Brault has been recalled from Indianapolis and is active for tonight's game.  To make room on the roster, LHP Buddy Boshers was optioned to Indianapolis.
