Jordan Lyles Makes His 2019 Pirates Debut Tonight At PNC Park

April 04, 2019 - 4:56 pm

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - After two extra inning losses to the St. Louis Cardinals to open up the home portion of the schedule at PNC Park, the Pirates (1-3) open up a 4-game series with the Cincinnati Reds (1-4) Thursday night at PNC Park.

The Pirates split the rain-shortened season opening series in Cincinatti as the Pirates lost 5-3 Opening Day and shut out the Reds 5-0 Sunday afternoon.

DICKERSON PLACED ON IL

Pirates Outfielder Corey Dickerson was placed on the Injured List with a right posterier shoulder strain and is expected to miss at least 10 days, as first reported by John Perrotto. Jordan Lyles takes his spot on the roster as he was activated from the IL for his start tonight, but no move has been officially announced to bring up another outfielder yet, but Jason Martin was not in Indianapolis' starting lineup for their seaosn opener Thursday night.

PIRATES OUTFIELD DEPTH

With Dickerson heading to the IL, Hurdle said Wednesday pregame that both Newman and Moran are both taking fielding reps in the outfield in pregame warmups.  And when asked about whether he would feel good about having to used either in the outfield during a game.

"Newman maybe, he's done some work for two days, Moran we just stole (put out there) this afternoon," said Hurdle. "And that's the great thing about players, they will tell you they're confident and ready to go play, but I may want to see a little something in the outfield before we go.".

The Pirates also have outfield depth at Indianapolis in Jason Martin, Patrick Kivlehan and Bryan Reynolds
