Pittsburgh (93.7 The Fan) - Pirates righthander Joe Musgrove underwent surgery to repair his abdominal wall in Los Angeles on Friday.  The muscle strain had bothered Musgrove late in the season, leading the Pirates to shut him down.  He was hoping to avoid surgery, but six weeks of rest failed to alleviate the problem. The surgery was also aimed at healing a stress reaction on Musgrove's pelvic bone.

The Pirates say a typical recovery time from this type of surgery is six weeks.  Musgrove should be ready--or close to ready--for the start of spring training in February, according to the team.
