Bucs Look to Stay Hot Vs Detroit

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – After earning a much needed series win in Miami to end a disappointing road trip, Pittsburgh has returned to PNC Park the begin a five game home stand which features matchups against Detroit and San Diego. Tonight, the Pirates (32-39) will take on the Tigers (25-43) in the first of a two game series of interleague play.

The Bucs previously played the Tigers twice in Detroit earlier this season, where they won both games.

On the mound for the Pirates tonight will be the organization’s top prospect, right hander, Mitch Keller. Keller has made two starts at the major league level for the Buccos, where he has struggled, allowing 12 earned runs in just 7.0 innings of work.

Overall, Keller is 0-1 with a 15.43 earned run average.

Tonight will be Keller’s first pitching appearance at PNC Park.

In his last outing, which was against Atlanta on June 12, he went just innings, allowing six earned runs on 10 hits and two walks while striking out two and escaping with a no decision. Keller is listed on MLB Pipeline as the 18th best prospect in all of baseball.

He was a second round pick by the Pirates in 2014.

Opposing Keller will be left hander, Daniel Norris.

In the 14 games he has appeared in this season, which includes 11 starts,

Norris has gone 2-5 with a 4.52 ERA. In his last outing, Norris was solid allowing just two earned runs on six hits and a pair of walks while striking out six in five innings of work against Kansas City on June 12.

Norris has pitched just one time against Pittsburgh, were he allowed an earned run on two hits and a walk in two innings of work. Starling Marte enters Tuesday as the only active Pirates player to have a base hit against Norris.

Tonight will be Norris’ fourth interleague start of the season.

After tonight the Pirates will once more take on the Tigers and then will get a day off Thursday before their weekend series against the Padres.

Following the end of this homestand the Bucs will pack up and hit the road to the lone star state to face the Houston Astros in a three game set before heading back to Milwaukee to face the Brewers three more times to round out the month of June.
