PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – After exiting Friday night’s game with left side discomfort, the Pirates announced that first basemen Josh Bell has been placed on the 10-day disabled list with a left oblique strain, prior to the start of the game Saturday night against the Mets.

Bell, who has struggled to find consistency at the plate this season was one of the top bats in the Bucs’ lineup this month, hitting .329 (23-70) in 22 games. In the last 16 games, Bell has been arguably at his best, hitting .358 with four doubles, a triple, a homerun, eight RBI and eight walks.

With Bell on the DL, the Pirates have recalled 25 year old Jose Osuna from AAA Indianapolis. Osuna, who has already spent time with the big league club in the past two seasons, brings versatility to the Bucs’ roster, as he can play first base, third base and both corner outfield spots. In 61 games at AAA this season Osuna is  hitting .317 with five homeruns and 40 RBI. Osuna has not been able to have the same success at the plate during the short amount of time he has spent in the major leagues this season though, hitting just .196 with two homeruns and seven RBI in 23 games.

The Pirates enter Saturday’s game against New York having won 12 of their last 14 games and are only 3 games out of the second spot in the National League Wild Card race.
