BRADENTON, FL (93.7 The Fan) - The Pirates reduced their spring training roster by 5 players, optioning shortstop Cole Tucker, outfielder Jason Martin, and pitchers Aaron Slegers and Jesus Liranzo to Indianapolis and reassigning pitcher Alex McRae to the minor league camp.

Tucker is one of the team’s top prospects and, despite hitting .389 this spring with a double, a triple and 2 home runs, knew that he’d be starting the season in Triple A.

“It’s cool and it sucks at the same time,” Tucker said, “but I definitely feel good about where I’m at. I really feel like I belong and it’s nice to know the Pirates share that same sentiment.”

Martin, who was acquired a year ago in the Gerrit Cole trade, also had a strong spring, hitting .304 with 2 triples and a pair of homers.
