Pirates Sign Veteran Pitcher Derek Holland To Minor League Deal

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - The Pirates have reportedly signed veteran left-handed pitcher Derek Holland to a minor league deal.

Multiple reports say that Holland will get an invitation to spring training and can opt out of the deal if he is not on the Opening Day roster.

The 33-year-old Holland, nicknamed the “Dutch Oven”, made 51 appearances, including eight starts, in 2019 for the Giants and Cubs.

He had a 6.08 ERA over 84.1 innings with a 1.51 WHIP.

Holland has a career 4.54 ERA over 295 games since 2009.

He also gave a hint on Twitter that he was joining the Bucs on Friday.

Holland, who has started his career in Texas with the Rangers has also played for the White Sox in addition to the Giants and Cubs, is projected to go 4-6 in 2020 with a 5.00 ERA, according to Pro-Baseball reference.
