Pitt Announces Inaugural Athletic Hall Of Fame Class

Honorees like Ditka, Marino and Dorsett will be honored in Sept.

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - The University of Pittsburgh has announced the inaugural class of the Pitt Athletics Hall of Fame Thursday.

Pitt athletic director Heather Lyke said in a news release, “These individuals represent Pitt’s Gold Standard and we are greatly looking forward to honoring them at our official induction ceremony in September.”

The class of 16 includes names like Mike Ditka, Tony Dorsett, Dan Marino and Billy Knight.

The public had the opportunity to nominate someone from January to the end of March. The candidates had to be five years removed from Pitt and not currently playing professionally and a selection committee recommended candidates to Lyke.

A Hall of Fame dinner will be held on September 7 at the Petersen Events Center and  the inductees will be introduced to the public during the Penn State game at Heinz Field September 8.
