Senior starter Matt Pidich went 7 innings striking out eight and only giving up a run as Pitt beat Georgia Tech 2-1 in the first day of poll play in the ACC baseball tournament.

Pidich just pitched Thursday at home against Louisville and got a couple of runs of support in the 7th.  Senior Caleb Parry drove home Liam Sabino for his first RBI in eight games, followed by a Chris Cappas triple.  Cappas has six hits in the last four Panther games.

Yellow Jackets answered with a run in the bottom of the inning, but Pidich got a strikeout and a lineout to end the inning.  Sophomore R.J Freure struck out a half the batters he faced in the final two innings for the save as the Panthers will now face top-seed North Carolina Wednesday night at 7.
