PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - Pitt Football’s training camp opens on August 2 and while the ACC Football pre-season rankings are not out yet, coach Pat Narduzzi said at the ACC Kickoff in Charlotte, North Carolina Wednesday that his players are on the right track.

“They’re confident, they’re passionate about what they’re doing and they’re working hard. This is a long process.”

Even though camp begins in two weeks, Narduzzi says his team has been preparing since the end of the 24-14 upset win over No. 2 Miami last November.

He also expects the defense to be more competitive and says new coordinator Randy Bates will make a difference.

Linebacker Oluwaseun Idowu agrees and says the defense will be much improved in 2018.

“We’re capable of great things I think as a team and with our growth that we’re going to have, we’re going to be capable of even more,” said idowu. “I really believe in my teammates and I’ve seen it.”

Senior lineman Alex Bookser said during the event that sophomore quarterback Kenny Pickett emerged as a leader as a freshmen.

“He’s been a pro since he stepped foot on campus and it’s been awesome to have a guy like him in the locker room to kick people in the butt when they need it, be that guy and as a senior leader it’s awesome to have a younger guy really embrace that role.”

The Panthers open at home against Albany September 1.
