PITTSBURGH (93.7 The FAN) - He hasn't even been on the job a full two months, yet new Pitt head coach Jeff Capel has come out swinging and landed some prized recruits.

Capel joined The Starkey and Mueller Show to talk about Pitt flipping the court to showcase the Oakland Zoo, his recruits and the type of players he wants.

On the importance of flipping the court at The Pete, Capel said it was so important to him, he brought the idea up in his interview.

"I think it's very important," Capel told us.  "It's something that I brought up during the interview process.  It was actually a question I had and asked them if it was possible to do it...As a visitor, before I got the job, I always heard about The Oakland Zoo, always heard about the atmosphere.  To be quite honest with you, when I was at Duke and we came up here and played, I think it was maybe 2003, it wasn't that hostile right behind our bench and it was because you had those suites."

Talking about the players who will be playing on that new configured court, Capel discussed the Top 100 player he landed in combo guard Tre McGowan without having ever stepped foot on the Pitt campus.

"I had heard about Tre, I had never seen him, I had heard about him and I heard about the possibility that he had the opportunity I should say to reclassify, and that's something he chose to do.  So I started asking some people that I knew that maybe had seen him play about him.  I got some really positive feedback and the thing that kept coming up was obviously he's talented, but he has big upside, he can get a lot better and his best basketball is ahead of him."

We also asked Capel one of our favorite hypothetical questions and that's if you took current day Lebron James and put him on a middle-of-the-road college team, how far that team would go.

"I think they have a chance to win the whole thing...Honestly, he's toying with the best players in the world and on the college level, you don't have the best players in the world and so it would be a joke if he were in college.  And whatever team he would be on, I think would be the team to be the favorite to win the championship."
