PITTSBURGH (93.7 the Fan) – Their future in their own hands to make a first ACC Championship game, Pitt set a school record in total yards Saturday with 654 and embarrassed Virginia Tech 52-22 at Heinz Field.  The Panthers are now a win away from the goal Pat Narduzzi set for them during pre-season media days.

After being stopped on 4 plays at the one yard line to lose at Virginia Tech last year, Pitt rushed for 492 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Senior Qadree Ollison ran for 235 yards including touchdowns of 97 (school record), 31 and 8 yards.  The New York native now has 1,054 yards and became the sixth player in Pitt history to have multiple thousand yard seasons.  The last one also wore number 30 and plays at Heinz Field, Steelers tailback James Conner.

Senior Darrin Hall ran it seven times for 189 yards and mere 73 yard touchdown.

Pitt also had a big plays in the passing game as Kenny Pickett was 7 of 11 for 162 yards and a 78 yard touchdown to Maurice Ffrench.

“We all knew it was a big game because it was the next one, “ Ffrench said.  “We also wanted to send the seniors off right.  Every game from now on is big for us.”

In their final game at Heinz Field, the senior class combined for 422 yards, five touchdowns and 22 tackles including 3.5 for loss.

“A great day for our seniors,” said head coach Pat Narduzzi.  “You watch Qadree Ollison up on that ladder, singing that fight song and know it’s hard to believe it will be the last time he can stand on that ladder.  It’s emotional.”

After only 5 wins last year, Pitt also is bowl eligible again this season with a pair of road games left, at Wake Forest and Miami.
