PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - The revived Pitt-Penn State rivalry is headed to primetime. This year’s meeting between the Panthers and Nittany Lions at Heinz Field will take place September 8 at 8 p.m. in the national spotlight.

It will be the first evening meeting between the schools in 31 years. Pitt won the last primetime game at Pitt Stadium 10-0 in 1987.

Pitt said in a statement that this September’s meeting is the last scheduled in Pittsburgh as part of the four-game deal between the schools. The last game in the agreement is in 2019 at Happy Valley.

Last month, Pitt athletic Director Healther Lyke said she had been in contact with Penn State AD Sandy Barbour about renewing the rivalry again in 2026 but Barbour suggested last week it may not be till 2030 till we see another game between the two.

Pitt won the first meeting of the renewed rivalry in 2016 42-39 at Heinz Field and Penn State won last year 33-14 at Beaver Stadium.
