Pitt Wins 31st Consecutive Match At Fitzgerald Field House

The Panthers swept Wake Forest (3-0) Friday night to improve to 22-1 (11-0 in ACC)

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - The Pittsburgh Panthers won their 31st consecutive match at the Fitzgerald Field House as they swept the Wake Forest Demon Deacons Friday night (3-0) as they improve to 22-1 (11-0 in ACC).

After rising to #2 in the polls, the Panthers are back at the Fitzgerald Fieldhouse for the next two weeks and the first match of this stretch was against Wake Forest Friday night.

Prior to the match Friday night, Senior Stephanie Williams was honored for recording her 1,000th career dig in the team's match at Notre Dame.

Pitt won the first set 25-12 against Wake Forest and finished the set with a 41% hitting percentage.

The Panthers had three service aces, two blocks and seventeen kills after one set.

In the second set, Pitt carried the momentum from the first set win to a 25-11 win in the second set to go up 2-0 in the match.

Pitt had a 39% hitting percentage in the second set with three more blocks, one service ace and ten kills.

Wake Forest didn't go quietly in the thrid set, but Pitt was able to rally to win the set 25-20 and the match 3-0.

The Panthers finished the match with a hitting percentage of 32%, 6 service aces, 35 digs and 37 kills.

Leading the Panthers Friday night on the court, Lexis Akeo had 25 assists and 7 digs, Williams had 9 kills and 3 aces, Layne Van Buskirk had 5 kills and Hali Hillegas had 9 digs.

With the sweep, Pitt has set a program record with their seventh consecutive sweep in ACC play and ties their best start to an ACC conference season at 11-0 which they set just last season.

Up next for the Panthers, they will host Duke Sunday afternoon at Noon.
