The Pittsburgh Penguins announced Wednesday that they have signed Jake Guentzel to a five-year, $30 million contract extension.

Guentzel, 24, will receive $6 million per season beginning in the 2019-20 season through 2023-24 season.

"Jake established himself as an impact player for our team from the beginning, especially during 2017 Stanley Cup playoffs," executive vice president and general manager Jim Rutherford said. "He has become a core player on the team and we are thrilled to get Jake signed long-term with the Penguins."

Jake has been a break-out star for the Pens since 2016-17 mid-season start, including during 2017 Stanley Cup victory run – scoring 13 postseason goals, the second-most by a rookie.

This season, he has 15 goals, 18 assists with 33 points in 26 games and his first regular season hat trick against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
