Golden Tate on NFL Canceling Preseason Games: 'YES!!! I mean oh darn'

NFL fans obviously weren't thrilled that preseason games were canceled, but the response was a lot more ambivalent than might be expected. After all, the amount of fans who tune into regular season games is cut significantly when it comes to those who watch the preseason. Some fans have called for the league to shorten the preseason for years, and though these circumstances probably weren't what fans envisioned, the change ultimately went into effect.

In the wake of a massive public health crisis, it makes sense that the NFL would take precautions to remove some games, and there's speculation that the entire preseason could be wiped away, as Jason La Canfora reported.

How do the players feel about this? My original instinct said that the players would view this as a pretty crushing blow to the hopes that an NFL season will be able to occur at all. Cases of COVID-19 are rising, big-name players are expressing their discomfort with the current situation, and the future seems bleak.

But wide receiver Golden Tate is taking the news with a different mindset: he's pumped.

That sarcasm is potent. But we have to think that a lot of players agree with Tate. The games can result in devastating injuries that can completely alter a team's season, and for what trade-off? None, other than gaining some chemistry with a new quarterback or becoming familiar with a new playbook.

It seems as though Tate is more than comfortable with quarterback Daniel Jones after a season in which the duo linked up for 614 yards, 28 first downs and five touchdowns in around half of a full schedule, all of which were the highest (or tied for highest) statistics of receivers who caught a ball from Jones.
