The coronavirus outbreak on Monday claimed the life of former St. John’s basketball player Lee Green. He was 49.

Ron Linfonte, St. John’s director of sports medicine and longtime head trainer, broke the news on Twitter on Monday night.

The 6-foot-3 guard averaged 2.3 points per game over his three-year career.

“Lee was our warrior on those teams,” Linfonte wrote. “A true lock em up defender that relished shutting down the best opponents.”

Green grew up wanting to play for St. John’s and remained a Red Storm fan well after his playing days were over, attending a game as recently as January, according to the New York Post.

Green was a retired police officer in Brooklyn and DJ’ed using the name “El Dorado.” He wasn’t believed to have any pre-existing conditions and contracted COVID-19 while DJ’ing an event, the Post reported.

New York City has had more than 13,000 coronavirus cases, 125 resulting in deaths.
