US President Trump will huddle with the top executives in professional sports to talk about the coronavirus.

A call with "major league commissioners" was set for noon ET on Saturday, according to the president's public schedule, reported Mark Knoller of CBS News.

The meeting comes with the sports world in an uncertain position, along with most other sectors of US social and economic life. The NBA and NHL seasons have been suspended since March 12. MLB's Opening Day has been pushed back indefinitely, while the NFL is attempting to forge ahead with its usual offseason calendar under unprecedented circumstances.

Naturally the pause in action has fueled rampant speculation about when the leagues could return, and what the schedules might look like to account for the interruption.

However, recent signs indicate a return could be a ways off.

League doctors with the NFL and NHL have warned against coming back too quickly, and suggested widespread testing should be performed on players before play resumes.

Meanwhile cases soared in the US in the first week of April, and the Trump administration extended social-distancing and stay-at-home orders through the end of the month.

A press briefing was to be held after the call, at 3:30 ET.
