The addition of the right-handed slugger comes after Braves right fielder Nick Markakis decided to opt out of the 60-game MLB season due to COVID-19 risks.

Puig joins the Braves after he split time in 2019 with the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Indians, combining to hit .267/.327/.458 with 24 home runs, 84 RBI and 30 doubles.

The Reds traded Puig following his involvement in a brawl with the Pirates to Cleveland as part of a three-team deal that netted Cincinnati pitcher Trevor Bauer.

Puig now joins an outfield that now consists of Ronald Acuna and other new addition, Marcell Ozuna, while also adding some pop to a lineup that lost Josh Donaldson in free agency.

While Puig – who defected from Cuba in 2012 – burst onto the scene in 2013 with the Los Angeles Dodgers and was an All-Star in 2014, he has not quite lived up to the expectations he set for himself early in his career while his eccentric style and personality have rubbed some the wrong way.

Still, he has some power in his bat and a strong arm in the outfield, and plays with a certain swagger that has made him one of the most recognizable faces in the game.
