PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - According to a report, it looks like Phil Kessel is staying in Pittsburgh for now.

Penguins GM Jim Rutherford told the Athletic's Josh Yohe Tuesday that Phil Kessel likely to be in a Penguins uniform again this season, after Kessel squashed a deal which would have sent him and Jack Johnson to Minnesota.

It was believed that Kessel was the player most likely to be traded by the Penguins in the offseason after being swept in the first round of the playoffs by the New York Islanders.

Rutherford seemed willing after the sweep to trade some of the team’s long established stars.

"Are guys too content with where they're at in their careers because they've won a couple of Stanley Cups?" Rutherford said back in April.

But now it appears Evgeni Malkin, Kris Letang and now Kessel are staying in Pittsburgh.

Kessel has played in every game since coming to the Pens four seasons ago.

Last season he has 27 goals and 55 assists in 82 games.
