PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - The Pirates have acquired RHP Chris Archer from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for pitcher Tyler Glasnow, outfielder Austin Meadows and an unnamed third person.

Archer would be under team control through 2021.

In seven sevens in the majors, Archer has had three seasons with over 230 strikeouts.

Pirates GM Neal Huntington said in a statement: “Chris Archer has been, and projects to be, an upper echelon Major League starting pitcher who we are thrilled to add to our organization to help us win games for the next three-plus years,” said Huntington. “Chris is also an outstanding person and we look forward to his introduction to our fan base and the Pittsburgh community.”

Archer is 3-5 this season with Tampa and his ERA of 4.31 is the highest of his career but Pirates pre-game co-host Jack Zduriencik says not to buy his higher numbers because he plays in the difficult American League East.

Zduriencik a former MLB General Manager thinks “He’s a guy that will fit in.”
