PITTSBURGH (93.7 the Fan) - From day one when the Pirates called up Pablo Reyes to the big club, Reyes has brought an energy to this team on  and off the field.

"He (Reyes) has a very quiet confidence," said Hurdle.  "It's been spoken about since he's been in the organization, when he gets in the box there's no mirror, he doesn't know he's 5'8", 5'9", it's not about size, it's about a bat in a man's hands and what he wants to do with it."

Hurdle on what it's been like to watch Reyes play since getting the call up to the Pirates.

"He just has that passion for the game that seems to get him out there with lack of reservation or anxiety so far," said Hurdle.

Reyes on the passion that he brings to playing the game of baseball.

"When I was a kid I had a lot of passion because my father told me you had to try the best you can do every time you play," said Reyes.  "If you played today, you have to play like this is you last day (chance)."

Reyes has used his speed to change games since being called up to the Pirates and tonight against the Royals he used his arm as he threw out O'Hearn at the plate to complete the double play to end the top of the seventh inning that kept the game scoreless.

"I threw the ball early (enough), that I think that I could make the play," said Reyes.
