TAMPA BAY (93.7 the Fan) – Ben Roethlisberger won his 40th career game in prime-time and again went over 300 yards as the Steelers got their first victory 30-27 at Tampa Bay.  And it came after another week of drama in the locker room.

“We always say winning cures a lot of things, I think the biggest issues were outside the locker room,” Roethlisberger said.  “I think it was a little bigger than it really is, than it was.”

Roethlisberger was able to smile about it after a hot and humid night in Florida.

“We’re used to it,” Roethlisberger joked.  “Honestly, we have a great group of veteran guys.  Coach has been here for a long time.  The linemen, I always say, are the catalyst of this group.  They help control us and we have a veteran group that can handle those distractions.”

Roethlisberger’s 56th career 300 yard passing night was nearly secured by half, throwing for 273 yards and three touchdowns.  That included the final drive of the first half, going 75 yards in just over a minute.

“That’s big for us knowing you have to get points, you’ve got three timeouts, a minute and some change.  To take it down the field like we did against that defense, proud of how everyone stepped up.”

Roethlisberger had some help including 112 receiving yards from tight end Vance McDonald, 116 from JuJu Smith-Schuster, a touchdown from Antonio Brown and four turnovers from the defense.

“I thought our defense played awesome tonight,” Roethlisberger said.  “Creating turnovers, giving us a short field, making some stops, it was fun to get them involved.  I told the team after it was a total team win and that’s what Steelers football is all about.”
