Pittsburgh (93.7 The Fan) - It is something that Steelers fans wondered if they would ever see--linebacker Ryan Shazier walking after a catastrophic spinal cord injury in December.  Shazier, accompanied by his fiancee Michelle Rodriguez, made his way to the podium in Dallas Thursday night to announce the selection of Virginia Tech safety Terrell Edmunds as the Steelers first-round draft choice.

General manager Kevin Colbert said it's a huge lift for Shazier and the Steelers organization.

"You saw Ryan Shazier take some very inspirational steps," Colbert said.  "To see where he has come from to where he is and knowing where he might be able to go is beyond inspirational.  It's just exciting, and it's really exciting for him."

Coach Mike Tomlin echoed Colbert's comments.

"His loved ones, Michelle, have been an inspiration to us.  I'm really proud of those two of what they were able to do tonight."

Colbert said Shazier will have an opportunity to discuss his progress and would prefer that Shazier explain it.

"When he was ready to walk he was going to make that determination.  It was a goal of his.  It was up to him.  He did great.  It was amazing."
