PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - There is plenty of reaction coming in from fans, experts and more on Steelers Running Back Le’Veon Bell and the Steelers not getting a long-term deal done before yesterday’s deadline which means he will play again this year on the franchise tag. Former Steelers Nose Tackle and KDKA-TV Steelers Analyst Chris Hoke joined Cook and Poni on Tuesday to share his thoughts.

“I believe the Steelers offer to him which is being reported, 5 years $70 Million, $30 million guaranteed is more than fair,” Hoke told the guys. “I don’t know how you justify trying to squeeze more money out of a team when you are gonna make exponentially more than the other running backs in the NFL.”

Hoke says the Steelers may have dogged a bullet by him not taking the offer because he would have taken up much of the salary cap space which would have hurt them in signing other players.

“You can’t sustain winning and can’t sustain playing at a high level in the attrition of a season when you are paying people a ridiculous amount of money,” Hoke added. “The Steelers came up to meet him and you have to meet somewhere in the middle…he didn’t come down and meet them.”

Hoke says the team will still welcome him back with open arms because he is a great teammate and this was a business decision. He also believes his career will take a hit because he will end up going to a team that may pay him what he wants in a deal but can’t put the help around him to win.

Bell got off to a slow start last year because he decided to skip training camp and report before the first game but this year Hoke expects him to be in camp earlier to avoid a repeat of the poor start last season. He also doesn’t believe the threats of him missing any games because he doesn’t want to lose money.

“Are you gonna walk away from $9 million dollars guaranteed? He will not make that up,” Hoke added. “There is now way in my mind…it would blow my mind if he did that.”
