The Pittsburgh Steelers defense took some hits last night and showed signs of some potential problems that arose last year in their 51-34 loss to the Packers last night in Green Bay. Former Steelers DL and KDKA-TV Steelers Analyst joined Cook and Poni on Friday to offer his thoughts on the defense.

“It was disappointing” Hoke said. “Because you wanted to see a better performance from week one of the preseason. I think that the regressed.”

Hoke added that the biggest problem was execution and guys being in bad position but also adds that they are missing a huge piece in Ryan Shazier and the team has failed in replacing him.

“How do you replace Ryan Shazier?” Hoke said. “They added Bostic but he doesn’t hold a candle to Shazier and they didn’t address in the draft. They are going to struggle at that position all season.”

Hoke did offer his thoughts on the QBs saying it’s obvious that Landry Jones is the choice to back up Ben Roethlisberger because both Mason Rudolph and Josh Dobbs are not ready.
