PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan)- It's almost here, folks. Football season is right around the corner. Some may even say it's already here with training camp in session and preseason games being played.

So it's a perfect time for Colin Dunlap and Jim Colony of The Fan Morning Show to sit down with Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and talk about the many things surrounding the team.

Tomlin was recently called out on national television by one of this former players in James Harrison about not having enough discipline. He told 93.7 The Fan, he isn't going to change.

"I am who I am. I take my approach to discipline the way that I do. I'm never going to be somebody that I'm not," said Tomlin. "You know, I don't worry about the naysayers and the people that judge, I really don't. I focus my energies on getting this team to be a world championship-caliber group and my body of work will speak for itself. It always has. I've never felt the need to defend myself and don't intend to."

Last year, Tomlin said there would be "consequences" for Le'Veon Bell missing training camp. Still feel the same about this season?

"You know that there are. There's a reason why we come up here [Saint Vincent College in Latrobe] and work in this environment and develop individually and collectively. When you miss that, there's consequences and I just stated the obvious last year because it was our first venture into that realm," said Tomlin. "I've stated it less so this year because we've been there and done that."

"The two most important variables regarding Le'Veon is when he shows up and level of conditioning, football conditioning, he's in when he gets here. Until you have those two variables or boxes checked, discussions are moot."

Tomlin said that he hasn't watched any of the Cleveland Browns on Hard Knocks and really wants no parts of the show in the future.

"I just avoid the parameters that get you into that discussion [of having Hard Knocks at camp]," said Tomlin. "The parameters that get you into that discussion are not good ones so I don't spend a lot of time thinking about Hard Knocks, I definitely don't set my DVR for it."

About this tackling issue going on right now with the Steelers...

"We're very straight-forward in our pursuit of [tackling well]. We drill it but beyond drilling it, tackling is a part of our padded work daily here," said Tomlin. "We feel like that gives us an edge, a better baseline. Obviously it needs to improve throughout these preseason opportunities when we go into stadiums. But we feel like we take a better baseline into stadiums because of the nature in which we work."

You can hear the entire interview with Mike Tomlin on The Fan Morning Show on Monday below, including his thoughts on coming to Saint Vincent and the bond it forms within the team that you just can't get anywhere else.
