After five days of practice, the Steelers get an off-day tomorrow.  Many wondered if it would be an off-day on Monday after heavy rain and lightning around lunch-time at St. Vincent College.  However the team was able to practice full, with no precipitation and the sun actually peaked out for a few minutes.

“We had to deal with some weather issues,” said head coach Mike Tomlin.  “It is good for us have to adjust.  This process always presents things that we have to be light on our feet and deal with.”

Tomlin said they worked on different phases of situational football, to teach the players the nuances and unwritten rules of the game.  The work today was on “backed-up offense”.  Tomlin said it was a good day

Corner Artie Burns left practice today with a leg injury, but head coach Mike Tomlin downplayed that, along with Vance McDonald, Morgan Burnett, T.J. Watt and JuJu Smith-Schuster missing workouts.

“The other guys are nursing more short-term injuries,” Tomlin said.  “We will manage those guys day-to-day.  We’ll see what those guys look like following tomorrow’s off day with an eye towards at least partial participation in some form or fashion when they come back.  Morgan Burnett was able to do a little bit of that today.”

Tomlin also had an official update on the knee injury to starting guard Ramon Foster.

“He had a hyper-extension and a bruise on his right knee,” Tomlin said.  “There is speculation that it could be four weeks or so.”

Pitt visit

Today’s celebrity visitor was Pitt basketball coach Jeff Capel, who stayed for the entire practice.
