PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - The Steelers have fired outside linebackers coach Joey Porter.

In a statement Mike Tomlin said,

“I have informed outside linebackers coach Joey Porter that we will not renew his contract. These are difficult decisions when it comes to someone like Joey who has meant a lot to this organization as both a player and coach. I want to thank Joey for his coaching efforts over the past five years on our defensive staff. We wish him the best in his future coaching career.”

Porter played linebacker for the Steelers from 1999-2006. He finished his playing career with three years in Miami and two in Arizona. Porter rankest 5th on the Steelers all-time list of sacks with 60.0.

Porter was hired as the outside linebackers coach in 2015 after serving as a defensive assistant under former defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau in 2014.
