PITTSBURGH (93.7 the Fan) – A game-saving interception and a game-high 12 tackles  helped Steelers corner Joe Haden to be named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week.

Despite 22 career picks and twice being named to the Pro Bowl, it’s the first time in Haden’s career he’s been the player of the week.

“Joe Haden is the man,” said T.J Watt.  “He practices so hard and I’m so happy for Joe.”

“He’s a leader of that secondary, he means so much to us,” said defensive captain Cam Heyward.  “He knows how to make big plays.  I’m lucky to call him my teammate.”

“He means a lot, we ask him to do a lot of different things in a lot of different areas,” said linebacker Jon Bostic.  “Sometimes he may not show up on the stat sheet and sometimes that’s a good thing because they don’t want to throw his way.  He’s been doing it well for us all year.”

“Joe is a special guy,” said head coach Mike Tomlin.  “He just really is, he’s got special talents but his approach to it day in and day out, he’s a compass of steady and influence for a young secondary or particularly young corner back position of those around him.  We ask him to do a lot of things beyond a, b and c, and he does it all with a smile.  We are glad he’s a Pittsburgh Steeler.”

Center Maurkice Pouncey says he’s been watching this since they were teammates at the University of Florida.  While just a few games into his career, rookie safety Terrell Edmunds believes he knows who Haden really is.

“I don’t know if you know who Joe Haden is,” Edmunds said.  “It’s ‘Joe Money’.  We call him Joe Money because he always makes it happen.  He always does what he needs to do.  He’s a playmaker.  You can always depend on Joe.”

Edmunds also has a suggestion of what to do with the football on the interception last Sunday.

“He got a Brady ball, not too many people can say they got a Brady ball.  Got to put it in a case, put it away.”
