Steven Brault Placed On 10-Day IL With Left Shoulder Strain

Pirates LHP Expects To Just Be Out The Minimum Amount Of Time

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - The Pittsburgh Pirates placed LHP Steven Brault on the 10-Day IL with a left shoulder strain after being removed from Friday night's game against Milwaukee after feeling some discomfort.

After getting the scan done this morning and how he feels, Brault says he doesn't expect to be out for very long and should be back in the minimum amount of time.

"Overall pretty good, just going to be not too long of a process, just make sure we get fully healthy before we come back and get ready to go," said Brault. "The way we look at it, 7-10 days is just not that long to take off of throwing and just be able to come back, build up after that."

Brault has been one of the most consistent pitchers for the Pirates in their starting rotation over the past month and when asked if that makes this injury frustrating at all.

"I wouldn't say it's tough mentally, I think it's kind of something that I get a little break basically and be able to come back and be in the same spot I was without any shoulder pain," said Brault. "Same confidence, same ability attacking the zone, all that stuff, just be able to be fully comfortable when I'm out there will be just a step in the right direction."

With the All Star Break next week, it does make it a little easier for Brault to go on the IL for 10-days right now and only miss maybe one start instead of two or even more.

"It's very conveniant timing you know," said Brault. "Because if my next start was going to be 8-9 days from now. That's basically one less start you really have to miss so hopefully it won't be too many and still have most of the 2nd half completely healthy."

Relif Pitcher Dovydas Neverauskas was also optioned back to Triple-A Indianapolis and Pitchers Montana Deraupau and Luis Escobar were recalled from Indianapolis. This is Escobar's first time with the call up to the big leagues. Escobar was 2-1 with a 2.72 ERA and 42 stikeouts in 13 appearances, 5 starts, with Indianapolis.

Pirates Starting Pitcher Trevor Williams was also placed on the paternity list before Saturday's game and Dario Agrazal was recalled and will make the start for the Pirates against the Milwaukee Brewers Saturday afternoon at PNC Park.
