63-year-old Bennie Cunningham dies of cancer

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - Two-time Steelers Super Bowl winner Bennie Cunningham died of cancer on Monday.  He was 63.

A first round pick in 1976, Cunningham played in 118 games with the Steelers with 202 receptions for 2,879 yards and 20 touchdowns.  Cunningham caught 19 additional passes in his post-season career, including a pair for touchdowns.

The South Carolina native was a star at Clemson.  The two-time All-American was named as one of the 50 best players in ACC history as a part of the ACC’s 50th Anniversary Team in 2003.  Cunningham caught 64 passes in college for 1,044 yards and 17 touchdowns, including a then-school-record seven TDs in 1974.
