PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) - Mike Tomlin is reacting to the end of the Steelers/Browns and the long list of injuries they are dealing with.

“It was ugly for the game of football.  I think all of us involved in the game at this level want to safeguard and protect the game and its integrity.  And in that instance it was compromised with an unfortunate incident.  We were a part of it.  We accept responsibility for our actions in it,”

He added it compromised the integrity of the game, but ultimately had nothing to do with the poor result.

With some player still going thru appeals, Tomlin didn’t want to talk about it a lot.

He said it was easy to seek comfort the distraction of Myles Garrett, but told his team they didn't play well enough.

“It had little to no bearing in determining the outcome of the game.  Our execution or lack thereof did.  It’s easy to seek comfort in that sidebar distraction and not talk about what really needs to be talked about and that’s we played a losing football game.”

As for the injuries, Juju Smith-Schuster, Dionatae Johnson and Ola Adeiyni are in concussion protocol.

Smith-Schuster also has a knee injury. James Conner’s availability is up in the air as he deals with a shoulder injury and LT Walton needs meniscus surgery.

He did say Benny Snell has been cleared to practice.

“We’re not looking for excuses.  It is what it is.  We are trying to win football games.  We do have control over our preparation and readiness and ultimately the execution of those available to us.  We are not trying to seek comfort.  We just need to focus on our prep and our play in an AFC North road matchup.”

“It’s as much a part of the game as blocking and tackling and if you are a competitor, like we as coaches are competitors, that fired you up.  You want to smile in the face of adversity and deliver and that’s our focus.”
