LATROBE (93.7 The Fan) - Less than a week after being publicly criticized by former Steelers linebacker James Harrison, Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin responded to claims that he lacks discipline.

On Fox Sports 1 show Undisputed, Harrison was asked who is the better coach, Tomlin or New England’s Bill Belichick.

Harrison, who finished last season in New England after being cut by Pittsburgh, answered Belichick.

"Mike Tomlin is good as a head coach,” Harrison added. "He's a player's coach. I think he needs to be a little bit more disciplined. Other than that, the big thing with Belichick, he's very regimented, he's disciplined. Everybody is going to be on the same page... Over there, their coaching staff is like that... I ain't never been to so many meetings in my life."

It was reported that Harrison frequently slept through team position meetings while in Pittsburgh.

Tomlin, as training camp opened Wednesday, did not have much to say on the critical comments.

"I don’t think a lot about it to be quite honest with you,” he said. "He has an opinion, he’s entitled to it. He doesn’t play for us right now.

"I’m focused on 2018 right now, man. That soap opera stuff, I’ll let you guys play that game.”

Tomlin’s discipline of the team, or lack thereof, has been called into question of late, particularly after a number of off-the-field issues last season.

He was asked if he self-evaluates after every season.

“That’s part of the process,” he said. "If you’re not trying to get better, what are you doing? You don’t get to do this for 12 years if you’re not taking that approach.”
