PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan)- The Pirates have been ravaged by injuries from the very beginning of this season and the starting rotation has not been spared.

With Trevor Williams on the 10-day IL and Jameson Taillon on the 60-day IL, the Bucs now have two holes in the rotation to fill with not very many options within the organization to do so.

Many have called for Pirates top pitching prospect Mitch Keller to get the call up from AAA Indianapolis to help the big league staff.

"It lines up that he should start one of those doubleheader games in Cincinnati, that makes the most sense to me," said Berry. "Archer would be lined up for Sunday, they could potentially get by with another opener on Saturday if that's what they need to do. I think Rookie Davis is lined up to pitch in AAA that day and you're probably not going to see him up. He was better in his last start but he hasn't shown enough to come back and pitch in the Majors right now."

"You could get away with another opener game on Saturday. I don't see a scenario where they could get away with two of them [with another one] on Monday in Cincinnati. It would line up where Mitch Keller would have to be one of those guys. They haven't committed to anything, they haven't said anything. I would say that it helped that he looked good in his start last night for Indianapolis. He went a season-high seven innings, that's the kind of stuff you want to see."

"I still don't think they're necessarily comfortable saying he's a finished product, which is why you see some reluctance from them about bringing him up between that and the Super 2 stuff and maybe a little bit of fear of rushing another pitching prospect. So, I think it might just be a temporary thing if he does come up and you hope that Trevor Williams gets healthy fast or maybe you look for another solution [like] trying out Chris Stratton. It seems like they've moved Nick Kingham back to the bullpen on a permanent basis, I don't know where they stand on Steven Brault at this point."

"It would help if Mitch Keller showed that he was ready and the Pirates are willing to take a chance on him at least in the short term, while they are down two starters. It's tough in a National League game to get by with two openers. The Rays are able to do in the American League with I think three spots in the rotation while Tyler Glasnow is hurt but it's really hard to imagine without a deep, optionable bullpen, rolling with two spots in your rotation being TBD every five days. Especially if you're not getting a ton of innings and quality starts out of the other guys in the rotation."
