Go Fleury! But The Golden Knights Need To Pay Their Dues

Maybe it’s an old-fashioned, outdated opinion but I feel the Knights need to at least have ONE season where they have growing pains.

Marc-Andre Fleury is amazing. It was heartbreaking to see him leave the Penguins but most fans understood why he had to leave. It was the perfect recipe. Matt Murray had just come in, won two Stanley Cups (with Fleury’s help) and the Penguins could only protect one goaltender in the NHL expansion draft for the Vegas Golden Knights.

So Fleury headed to Vegas and Pittsburgh wished him well. Fleury in kind expressed his gratitude for all the years he spent in the 'Burgh.

Now, the Golden Knights are two wins away from the Stanley Cup Final in their first year in the league and while I want to see Fleury win, I don’t think a first year team should be equipped to win the Stanley Cup their inaugural year. It took the Penguins till their third season to make the playoffs and it was 24 years till the team made it to the Stanley Cup Final.

What dues have the Golden Knights paid? Vegas got to pick an unprotected player from every other NHL team. Each team was able to protect seven forwards, three defensemen, and one goaltender or one goaltender and eight skaters regardless of position in the expansion draft.

This was done to help Vegas be competitive right off the bat in a market that has never had a "big four" professional sports team in the city.

Maybe it’s an old-fashioned, outdated opinion but I feel the Knights need to at least have ONE season where they have growing pains.

With all that said I will be happy if Fleury gets to hoist the Cup again and if they make it to the Final and play the Washington Capitals? GO GOLDEN KNIGHTS!
