"Gritty" is the stuff nightmares are made of

The Philadelphia Flyers apparently traveled to our nightmares to find their new mascot.

The hockey team unveiled “Gritty” on Monday morning and said in a statement,

"First and foremost, the Flyers adding a mascot to our fan engagement program is specifically for our young fans, and we're excited to add value to their experience both at games and in their communities," notes Shawn Tilger, chief operating officer for the Philadelphia Flyers.

If scaring children is fan engagement then I guess mission accomplished.

The Flyers explained “Gritty’s” origin in the release saying that he was “found” by the team during renovations at the Wells Fargo Center, the home of the Flyers. It’s unknown what dimension of hell they found him in.

If you attend any Penguins games in Philadelphia this season keep your eyes peeled because “Gritty” could be lurking in the shadows.

The Penguins gave their opinion of ‘Gritty’ by simply tweeting, "lol ok."
