PITTSBURGH (93.7 The FAN) - With the first preseason game upon us, our Steelers Insider Ed Bouchette joined Joe Starkey to talk about the one storyline everyone is paying attention to, Mason Rudolph's debut.

Can Rudolph earn the top backup job to Ben Roethlisberger?  You can count Bouhcette amongst those who thinks he can.

"As it was explained to me, if he doesn't [win the top backup job], there's no development this year just like there was none for Josh Dobbs last year because the number three quarterback practices very little once the season starts."

That being said, Ed does add that if Landry is the top backup, they'll find a way to get Rudolph involved, but it wouldn't be the same as Rudolph getting all the practice reps alongisde Ben.

Aside from the QB battle, Ed says he's most excited to see James Conner and Jaylen Samules get some action.

"I want to see James Conner run even though we saw some of him last year and I want to see the rookie Jaylen Samuels run and block becuase he didn't block much at North Carolina State and he admitted to me that's an area he needs to develop."

Ed added that he's intriqued by James Washington and what he'll do tonight because he has looked good so far in training camp.
